biography
Annie Tull is a multidisciplinary artist and architectural designer whose work explores the intersection of story and landscape through a hybrid practice that encompasses painting, fiber, mixed media/collage, place-based installation, elemental sculpture, architecture, film, dance, and the written word. By investigating how humans connect with their environments and the crucial role that bioregional factors play in shaping the heritage of a place, she aims to define a contemporary sense of stewardship through ecologically-engaged artwork.
In 2021, her large-scale fiber-based sculpture “Totem at the Tidewater” was acquired by the Koenig Foundation and placed in the permanent collection of Annmarie Sculpture Garden in Solomons, Maryland, where it continues to evolve within the ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay.
Her work has been featured in numerous climate- and spirituality-related venues including Marin County’s EmberStomp Fire Prevention Festival and Berkeley’s Mangalam Center for Creative Inquiry. In 2023, her work was featured at Boutique Design conference in New York City and Ireland's National Night of Culture with notable exhibitions at the Jules Maidoff Palazzo for the Visual Arts in Florence, Italy, and the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. Her site-specific installations have been commissioned by AmazonStudios, Twitch, Rivian Automotive, and SoftBank Global, among others. She has been supported by several grants and residency fellowships including Greywood Arts Centre in Cork, Ireland, and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico, and was recently named one of ‘20 Artists to Collect in 2020’ by London-based DESTIG Magazine.
Tull received her MFA in Interior Architecture from The George Washington University in 2013 and holds a BA in Visual Art Practice from the University of San Francisco. She is a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional with a Certificate in Permaculture Design.
